What is Acrobatic Aerial Yoga?VATA ASANA™ Aerial Yoga postures are done in the air creating space, detoxification, and balance through aerial yoga. Practitioners learn how to blend traditional yoga asana with acrobatic elements while focused on alignment and guided by breath. Working with gravity allows space to be created in the joints and lengthens the muscles and ligaments. The aerial yoga wraps rest on pressure points bringing energetic balance to the meridians in the body. Compression free inversions boost the lymphatic system and detoxify the body while giving traction to the spine and hydrating the vertebral disks. An overall increase in flexibility, increase in the circulatory system, and mood boost are among some of the additional benefits to a regular practice. VATA ASANA™ Aerial Yoga is a style of yoga that is now offered in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
How Can Aerial Yoga Help The Spine? Scoliosis?
Gravity pulls the spine into its natural alignment during inversions and has helped correct curvatures of the spine caused by scoliosis and other spinal issues. The image shown is a student who practiced 2X a week for 2 year period and this X-Ray reflects the progress.
Once suspended in the air, the body becomes 50% lighter with the support of the silks. This alleviated pressure on the joints and connective tissues and the space created in the body allows difficult postures accessible to anyone. Students with arthritis, injuries, and those that are less flexible, find ease in backbends and inversions. The asanas work with gravity to create space, in the body without strain to the muscles or joints. This process creates buoyancy, a feeling of floating and can allow the practitioner to find space in the joints and in the spinal column. Students with scoliosis, arthritis, slipped disks, herniated, and bulging disks have had sucess in pain reduction and natural non-surgical corrections of the spine from the traction therapy. The pressure of the wraps stimulates the lymphatic system. Leyna Love Schaeffer (Muktadevi) / Bio
